HP TouchPad: Android 4.0 goes into alpha 1 with decoding the video

After several successive minor updates, the porting of Android 4.0 on HP TouchPad today marks a milestone with the arrival of the hardware acceleration of video. The resolution of this major gap earned him make a jump of 0.6 alpha 1 to alpha!

GPU hardware acceleration

This is indeed the GPU which now provides video decoding, instead of the CPU which is much less effective in this area, which allows it to decode video in HD 720p and even 1080p Full HD. Video playback was operating from the internal memory but it saturated the CPU resources and therefore considerably reduced autonomy.

The YouTube application on it, which requires hardware decoding under all circumstances, so finally works in SD and HD. Some applications like Netflix does not always work however. This is probably the case with other video applications on demand (VOD).

The hardware acceleration of 2D is also supported, for rendering animations for example.

Various improvements

CyaongenMod 9 Alpha 1 for HP TouchPad is still based on the Linux kernel 2.6.35, but the development team suggests focusing on the transition to the 3.0 kernel branch, which should lead to further improvements.

Finally, the management of the touch screen has been improved.

The Alpha 1.0 CyanogenMod 9 for HP TouchPad is available now from the official thread on the forum RootzWiki. She ran again as a ZIP file that the owners of a TouchPad is already running Android can simply install it from ClockworkMod Recovery.
