Galaxy S II: a version sold at a discount under the same name (update)
Do you like this story?
Slabs after waltz, waltz processors? A first smartphone, but not least, is certainly affected. The testimony of the last European buyers of Samsung Galaxy S II, detected by our colleague PC INpact, indeed flourish, following the sale of more or less disguised variant on the cheap.
Two models, one name
The trade name "Galaxy S II" can refer to the last few months two separate products: the original model whose reference is GT-i9100, but also a new GT-i9100G primarily intended for new markets such as Tunisia, Malaysia or other Asian countries.
The two references are identical, including the aesthetic, except for one detail: the GT-i9100 Samsung SoC integrates a Exynos 4210, the GT-i9100G a Texas Instruments OMAP4430. Certainly they contain both a CPU ARM Cortex-A9 double heart-1.2 GHz, but the first home to the young GPU ARM Mali-400 MP while the latter preserves the older PowerVR SGX540. Performance tests have also shown that the first CPU was more efficient than the second, which limits most of the time at 1.0 GHz, even under load.
Discrete coexistence
Not content to have booked a version at a discount to people who are moved, Samsung has finally delivered in Europe, where the situation is all the more problematic it has so far lived quietly with original. Many merchants were happy indeed to indicate the trade name and "double-heart at 1.2 GHz", mostly since the launch, which is unfortunately not sufficient to distinguish the two references. They are identified on the packaging, however, on the splash screen and then in the About menu.
Last October, in response to the revolt of the Malaysian population, Samsung Malaysia said on Facebook that "the difference in chip does not impact product performance." The above benchmarks have been dismantled this argument. Yet it is the e-tailer has used a French last week, a forum on consumer, while offering the refund. The gap is expected to widen further with the upcoming update to Android 4.0, operating more graphics acceleration.
This suggestion of this e-tailer that only resell what Samsung has delivered, there would not explicitly bought GT-i9100G and therefore that only the manufacturer would benefit by deception by increasing its margin. An affirmation that we are awaiting confirmation.
The merchants were the most reactive in any updated their product descriptions, unlike more traditional merchants but also and especially Samsung whose website says "Samsung processor dual core 1.2 GHz." Aggrieved buyers can return their product and be reimbursed, or to console themselves with greater autonomy and lower heating their GT-i9100G. Especially since all indications are that there are more GT-i9100 in stock now!
