Review Tablet : RIM BlackBerry in free fall!

No more for the Canadian company Research In Motion has just unveiled its results for the second quarter of 2011. After a disappointing first quarter already, RIM has again results below expectations.

In fact, RIM said it had shipped 10.6 million smartphones in its second fiscal quarter was 2.6 million less than in the first quarter (13.2 million), which was already disappointing for a company that owned it just over a year ago, nearly 40% market share of smartphones. Moreover, these figures are for non-delivery and the sale of smartphones. This decline is also reflected in market share since the BlackBerry OS phones face a steady decline since 2010, as to be now outdated and even distanced by Android and Apple. According to comScore, the market share from RIM in July 2011 was 21.7% against 41.8% for Google and 27% for Apple, at the same time, the Canadian brand is still struggling to find a place in Europe, not exceeding 10 %.
The Playbook disappoint ...

With a mixed reception from the press, the tablet of RIM's hard to find a place on the market shelves, or iPad still reigns supreme. With only 200,000 tablets delivered in the second quarter, against 500,000 in the first quarter, the Playbook is far from fulfilling the objectives expected by analysts, which was about 600 000 tablets for the second quarter. At the same time, Apple shipped 9,000,000 iPad. The Playbook nevertheless manages, according to IDC, to occupy 4.9% of the market shelves, but far from 68% to 26.8% of Apple and Android.
Title Research In Motion plunges

The announcement of these poor figures would not delay in reacting Wall Street since the stock has dropped by almost 20% to U.S. $ 23 this Friday! Since early this year, the dip is close to 50%. This decrease is caused by the announcement of bad figures, including the sales announced 4.2 billion, down 10% year on year and net income, also down 59% to $ 329 million .
Future sawtooth?

To redress the balance, RIM has already announced the elimination of 2,000 jobs in 2011, almost 10% its workforce. The brand also has on its new operating system, QNX, in 2012, meanwhile, five new smartphones were announced but it is questionable if the user does not prefer to wait for new products, which will embark on future OS brand, in 2011 the group acquired Harman. Financially, RIM expects revenue of which is between 5.3 and 5.6 billion dollars.

RIM is not going to at best, a situation that reminds us of another giant, Nokia, the Finnish brand that has chosen to partner with Microsoft to raise. An alternative to RIM that would think if the situation does not improve when these competitors Google and Apple continues to gain market share.
