Smartphone to the PC: Ubuntu Canonical present for Android

The publisher Canonical continues its multi-screen and has unveiled a docking station interfering data from your Android smartphone into a Ubuntu system.
In September 2011, at the Open World Forum, Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Canonical, explained his vision for the future Ubuntu system, which would intrude beyond the computer. "For me it is clear that the mobile platform is very important for any system. I think it is important that the heart of Ubuntu works well on phones, on television, as embedded system and the traditional desktop. , "He said.
After the presentation of Ubuntu TV at the show CES, Canonical has begun to tackle the smartphone market with a relatively original approach. Indeed, rather than developing a system version specially adapted to multi-screens of smartphones, Canonical has designed a cradle on which the smartphone will be added. Connected to a monitor, the Android system will be in the form of Ubuntu Unity meets the interface through which it will be possible to access all data and phone applications. The concept is akin to the Motorola Atrix which transforms the smartphone into a real PC.
"Why juggle two devices when you can not wear one? "Said Canonical, adding that future high-end smartphones have more than enough power to turn them into real computers.
Canonical has designed a true integration of data from the Android smartphone. The Unity interface on the monitor will find photos, videos or music files stored on the smartphone. These will be read directly by local applications VLC Player, Photo Gallery or Ubuntu Ubuntu Music Player. The boot menu will list the applications on the phone with the ability to open them. The address book of the phone is also integrated within the People section and coupled to the universal search engine Unity. Other applications available we find Chromium, Firefox, Thunderbird or Gwibber. The notification bar of Ubuntu, which normally returns WiFi networks captured by the computer, will those detected by the connected smartphone with the tools to control the latter. The user will receive alerts for SMS, email and calls with the ability to compose new messages or to launch Android Dialer application.
Like TV Ubuntu, Canonical is trying here to convince handset manufacturers to finance the production of these docking stations, arguing that they encourage consumers to adopt Android smartphones next generation of shipping multicore architectures. These stations are portrayed as a new market targeting both business travelers but also the developing countries in which the smartphone penetration is higher than the traditional PC.
